The multi-arts theater of the Manuel Galecio home is a reality for the Alauseña community, who from now on have a space from which art and culture will be promoted. The theater is more than 70 years old, but until recently it only functioned for the internal activities of the 92 girls who are housed in the Home of the Board of Charity.
During its inauguration, the theater opened the curtain with the choir of the Manuel Galecio Home made up of 17 girls, followed by several artistic presentations, including the tablao and singing of Guayaquil Flamenco, the children’s and youth orchestra of Alausí and the chamber group of the Technological Institute of Riobamba who received the applause of the public.
It has a capacity of 270 people, a stage with remote-controlled curtains, a projector, a projection room, a box area, audio, a podium, complete bathrooms and everything required for the presentation of artistic and cultural projects. The theater will be open to the community with works of various kinds according to the annual calendar of events developed by the Board of Charity, which also includes free dance, singing and guitar workshops for girls and adolescents.
Its remodeling and adaptation cost more than 90 thousand dollars, of which the Institute for the Promotion of Creativity and Innovation, IFCI, of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage contributed with $44. 826, the difference was financed by the Board of Charity.
Juan Xavier Cordovez, director of the JBG, recalled that thanks to the effort and joint work of those who supported this project, Alausí and its inhabitants have their theater. “There will be no better satisfaction than people filling it and enjoying the cultural events,” Cordovez said and ratified the Board’s commitment to Alausí, where for more than seventy years it has provided social assistance in this canton through the care of girls and also recently with the care of older adults in the San Pedro de Alausí Home.
With the respective ribbon cutting, Cordovez inaugurated the theater together with the main authorities, girls from the home and representatives of the main organizations of the canton.
