With an emotional artistic representation alluding to the communities or place of origin and the demonstration of what they have learned in music classes, seventy girls who reside in our Hogar Manuel Galecio, located in Alausí, province of Chimborazo, said goodbye to the school year that concluded in the highland region of the country.
Of these, 35 come from Amazonian communities or cultures: five girls are from the Siona culture, 17 from the Shuar community and 13 from the Achuar people; 25 come from the highland region and 10 from the Costa region.
These girls, between 5 and 17 years of age, all with very limited economic resources and who, due to different factors, live in vulnerable conditions, are provided with comprehensive care free of charge through education, housing, health care, food and training in principles and values by the nuns of the Marianitas community.
The scholarship recipients live in the Home for 10 months, for the duration of their school year. Here they feel safe, happy and in a family environment. In addition, they receive music classes, sewing, knitting and embroidery workshops; sports and computer science; even Amazonian girls who only speak their native language have been taught Spanish so that they can interact with their peers.
